Using EarthLink's Web Creator Tool
Why use the Web Creator?
Web Creator allows you to create, without any knowledge of HTML, a
quick, simple home page for your business. Our Design Wizard guides you through the
building of a very basic site which you may also update later, using the same tool. Once
you're finished, you'll have a Web presence for your business with:
- a page describing the company
- a page detailing your products
- a page listing your contacts
- a feedback form
Caution: If your Web site already contains files, using the
Web Creator tool may overwrite them.
Accessing the Web Creator Tool
Log into the EarthLink Control Panel at
http://control.business.earthlink.net
Choose Web Creator from the Toolbox
drop-down menu.
The Web Creator tool will appear in the lower frame of your Web browser window.
Creating Your Site
With Web Creator the process of making a small set of Web pages for
your company will only take a few minutes. When creating a site, there's one thing you
should keep in mind:
Images
If you're not using Netscape 2.0 or later, you must manually upload
any images you chose to use in the "Home Page Info" and "Product Info"
forms. You do this by connecting with an FTP program to ftp.business.earthlink.net and log in with the following
settings:
Server Name: ftp.business.earthlink.net
User Name: webuserid%yourdomain.com or
User Name: ftpdropboxname%yourdomain.com
Replace "webuserid" and "ftpdropboxname" above with the Web Hosting userid or ftp drop box name you use now.
Then change directory to "www", then upload your
graphics.
People using Netscape 2.0 or later will have their images
automatically uploaded.
Managing Your Site
After you've made a site with Web Creator, you can edit your content
simply by using it again.
Most of the information you entered the first time will be there.
You'll notice, however, that the form fields for your image selections on the "Home
Page Info" and "Product Info" pages are empty. You MUST enter the image
info again, or Web Creator will update the site without images. You don't need to browse
your hard drive or type in the full directory path, just enter the filename (e.g.
logo.gif).
Make your updates, then select "Create Your Site".
