EarthLink's File Manager allows you to make direct
updates to files and directories on your site and, best of all,
you do it through your Web browser!
With the EarthLink File Manager, you can:
-
Change file or directory
permissions
-
Create new files and directories
-
Rename, move, or delete files
-
Edit the contents of a text file
-
Upload files (only in certain browsers)
To Access the File Manager:
From the
Toolbox drop-down menu, choose
File Manager.
The File Manager will appear in the lower frame of your browser
window.
When you open the File Manager you will see a screen that
looks something like this:
This feature uses "form-based file upload",
which is available in Netscape Navigator 2.0 and above, as well
as Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 and later. Only one file may
be uploaded at a time, so if you need to send up several at once,
FTP would be the better way to go.
Note: Unlike FTP, you don't need to specify whether
something is being uploaded as text or binary. Text files uploaded
by Macintosh users through this method won't encounter
problems on the UNIX end.
For this example, we'll use
Create A File. These steps are also applicable to creating directories.
To Create a New File
Click the
Create A File link.
The File Manager
Enter a name for the file you wish to create into the
field under
Create A file.
Click the
Create File button.
When you click the
Create Filebutton, the following will happen:
Since the file is blank, you will want to enter some text
or HTML contents for the file.
When you click the
Edit link of a file or directory, you will see a screen that
looks something like this:
The Change File Screen
